Welcome to The Leslie Foundation

The Leslie Foundation has been set up to allow us to better care for our shared heritage, and in doing so, to bring greater public benefits and stronger community engagement.

Why here and why now?

‘Nowhere else on the island of Ireland is there such a definable pocket as here, nowhere do you get such diversity and depth of people, heritage and ways of life as in this border area.’

Our shared heritage, natural, built, cultural, social and family history is precious and fragile, being slowly and constantly eroded, and oftentimes allowed to disappear. The Leslie Foundation was established to ensure that our shared heritage is protected, and in doing so bringing about greater public benefits and stronger community engagement.

The Foundation will deliver solutions at Castle Leslie Estate, within the Glaslough village area and wider community of North Monaghan and beyond, cross-border and where applicable, nationally. It is intended that the Foundation will be support driven through grant giving, funding, scholarships, mentoring and other tools and projects.

The concept for the Foundation was first initiated by Sammy Leslie of Castle Leslie Estate in 2012, and is now supported and directed by a board of Directors. The Foundation was delighted to be awarded full charitable status in 2017.
